Who is Max Cooper?
The descendent of a barrel maker.
When and what made you decide you wanted to become a musical artist and how did it all happen?
It was no specific incident, more of a growing love for music that crept up on me unawares and sent me down the slippery slope.
Describe your work for someone who has never heard it before.
Electronic music with meaning.
How did you start ?
I started by buying a computer and some software for making music, followed by playing with it - a self taught process with the guidance of my friend Gareth Williams (aka Raw Hedroom).
Describe the process you use for creating a song.
It differs, but I like to either start with a clear emotional direction or a specific concept that I can judge each musical option to be closer to or further away from. Then it becomes a game of trial and error with lots of learned short-cuts to speed things up.
Describe a day in the life of Max Cooper.
Eat, emails, studio time, sleep. In various orders and combinations throughout the day.
Who would you be without Max Cooper's project?
A scientist.
What is the most important lesson you have learned?
I don’t think there is one lesson of most importance.
What's your ultimate goal?
To do something that actually helps people.
What bands/singers are you currently listening to?
Tim Hecker, Helios, Olafur Arnalds, Ben Frost, Max Richter, EOD, Deaf Center.
What are your up coming projects/exhibitions/plans?
My next EP for Traum, a collaboration with Michael Nyman, lots of gigs and lots of remixes.

Volume is...
The amount of something, the three dimensional size of something, the loudness of music. It probably has most relevance for me in terms of the quantity of music I release - always something which is hard to keep up with these days with the expectations of how much an electronic music artist should release.
